Ruffwear Quick Draw Leash

I love the Ruffwear brand and the Ruffwear Quick Draw Leash is just another reason why. This is one of my favorite products and is extremely useful. My boy Dozer and I go on alot of off leash walks at the park and once and awhile we will encounter another person or dog, so I would have to make sure I always carried his leash with me so I could hook him up in those instances but not anymore!
The Ruffwear Quick Draw Leash clips onto your dog's collar, and then is wrapped around their neck and secured with a velcro tab so it is out of the way until you need it. When that time comes simply pull the red grab-tab and release, TaaDaa, you now have a leash that runs between 19 and 28 inches, depending on the neck adjustment. The quality of this Quick Draw Leash is outstanding, I read reviews that people were having issues with the velcro attachment, but I have been using this daily for almost a year now and the velcro is as good as it was from day one. Dozer runs, jumps, rolls, and does everything imaginable with it on and not once has it come undone.
I also have this on him here at home when we are outside and when we go on car rides because you just never know when you might need it.

Note:
This product would not be useful if your dog does not stay next to you or come when called. You may want to just stick with a regular leash and Ruffwear has plenty to choose from. I would recommend the Ruffwear Knot-A-Leash.

I picked up my Quick Draw Leash on Amazon for $12.00 but the price does fluctuate. Ruffwear also just released a new version in which they enhanced the clasp. The new version goes for around $20.00

I highly recommend this product and I can't wait to order the new version for Diesel.

Product Info:
  • Short retraining lead that secures itself around the dog's neck
  • Quick-grab tab releases leash instantly
  • Low-profile design minimizes chance of snags
  • Designed to be worn with any collar
  • Low-light visibility with reflective trim

Mendota Slip Lead Review

I started looking at slip leads because when I go to my local shelter to walk the dogs on occasion the collars that they are wearing will slip off or break and so I wanted a leash to take with me that would withstand any pulling and also be able to fit any dog, large or small. I looked into a couple and came down between the Mendota Slip Lead and Ruffwear's Just a Cinch. The reviews and specs are about the same for both but the Mendota Slip Lead comes in nearly $10 cheaper and was what influenced my decision on which one to purchase.
I went with the black 1/2 inch x 4 foot which is perfect for taller dogs but for short dogs I would recommend the 6 foot version. I love the adjustable leather tab, you are able to tighten it on the upper part of the dogs neck behind the ears and have it stay in the correct position. If a lead is not being used correctly you are not going to have any success from it and you risk damaging your dog's windpipe or neck. (You can check out some YouTube videos on the correct way to use a lead.)
I was concerned at first that the handle would come undone but I have walked many heavy pullers with it now with no give. I have used other rope style leashes before and have had to suffer rope burn but so far no issues with this one. This makes for a great extra leash to have on hand or to help get those stubborn pullers in control but this is not to replace a standard collar and leash.

I purchased my Mendota Slip Lead on Amazon for around $14.00 but prices will be different depending on the color and size that you choose.

Product Info:
  • Hand Crafted in the USA
  • Leash and Collar in One
  •  Made of waterproof, colorfast, durable multi-filament polypropylene
  • All brass hardware and oil tanned leather splices

Kyjen Slo-Bowl Slow Feeder

I have randomly looked into getting a slow bowl feeder for Dozer but he always ate slowly so I never worried about actually purchasing one. Then after adopting Diesel and seeing how fast he gulped down his food I was worried about having issues with bloat especially since his breed is prone to it. So I went back to the web and started researching slow feeders and came across the Kyjen Slo-Bowl Slow Feeder. I chose the coral design but they offer several different options. When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised at how large it was, I expected it to be much smaller, the bowl can easily hold up to 5 cups of food. Diesel was a little frustrated at first trying to get the kibble out of the bowl and would cheat the system by tipping it over but then he watched Dozer eat out of it a few times and quickly picked up on the concept. It has increased Diesels eating time by 2 minutes and Dozer enjoys pushing the kibble around and playing rather than eat. This feeder is also easy to clean, I just wash it with hot water and Dawn dish soap about twice a week.

I ordered the Kyjen Slo-Bowl Slow Feeder on Amazon for $10.53 but the prices do change.
 Product Info:
  • Made with high-quality, food-safe materials
  • BPA, PVC, and phthalate free
  • Top rack dishwasher safe

Rogz Utility H-Harness Review

As you can tell it's very reflective
I was looking for a harness for my new puppy but didn't want to spend to much on one I knew he would be growing out of soon, so I picked up the Rogz Utility H-Harness. The harness only cost around $17 on Amazon and I am very happy with my choice.
The 3/4-Inch Fanbelt H-Harness has woven reflective threads stitched into high quality webbing that has been designed for strength, durability and safety. This harness features a locking buckle which reduces the risk of it coming undone. This feature is really neat and I have not seen this on other products before, it was a nice surprise. The D-Ring is located on the back which I prefer. The large 3/4 inch size fit Diesel perfectly, he currently weighs 40 lbs has a 13 inch neck and 22 inch chest. He is not a puller but I pulled on the harness quite a bit and everything seems very durable. If you do have a puller I would recommend the Dean & Tyler Dt Harness which I will post a review of later on. Overall, If you are looking for a nice harness for under $20 this would be a good buy.

Product Info:
  • Fully Adjustable
  • Woven reflective thread stitched into high grade nylon webbing on one side only
  • Box stitched for added strength and a quality finish.
  •  Harnesses are to only be used for walking. It is not recommended that the harness be left on the dog as it may cause irritation on dogs with sensitive skins.
